To keep our jumpers in shape for as long as possible, all we need is the right care and handling.

Lint constantly accumulates on jumpers. Various methods can be used to remove the fluff. It works well with a pumice stone or a piece of sandpaper that you run along the fabric of the jumper. You can also use nail scissors to cut off individual lumps of fabric on the jumper. Another option is to wrap a hand in adhesive tape with the adhesive side facing outwards and dab the jumper with it.

You can get thread pullers out of the jumper by pulling the annoying thread through a needle and pulling the needle onto the inside of the jumper. For woollen jumpers, it is better to use a crochet hook depending on the thickness of the thread.

Jumpers sometimes lose their shape when washed. To get the jumper back into the right shape, lay the washed jumper out on a towel and pluck it into shape. Never hang a wet jumper on a washing line, as the weight will distort the shape of the jumper. Jumpers can also be tumble dried if the washing instructions recommend this. When washing and drying, it is advisable to turn the jumper inside out so that no fluff sticks to it during the washing process.

When buying a new jumper, you should always bear in mind that the jumper may shrink a little, so it is better to buy a garment that is slightly too big.

If the elbows become threadbare due to frequent wear, they can be repaired with patches of the same colour. If it is sewn well, it often looks even better than before.

When storing a jumper in the wardrobe, you should not hang it on a hanger so that it does not lose its shape. Instead, fold the jumper neatly.

Depending on the fabric, a jumper should be ironed by placing a thin kitchen towel over it. This prevents the heat of the iron from damaging the fabric in the long term.

Jumpers are the foundation of our wardrobe for most of the year.
