Again and again, tourists come into contact with a jellyfish at the seaside. If you want to help a person who has touched a jellyfish and is in pain, you must never cool the wound with fresh water. The fresh water will burst the still closed stinging cells that the jellyfish has left on the skin and cause even more burning.<\/p>\n

Instead, you can cover the wound with damp sand. But do not rub the sand. If you happen to have shaving foam with you, you can spread it on the wound. Shaving foam has a cooling effect and encapsulates the still-closed nettle cells.<\/p>\n

The edge of a credit card or similar object can be used to scrape the sand or shaving foam along the skin, which then removes the stinging cells and the jellyfish remains with it. The jellyfish is thus practically scraped off the skin.<\/p>\n

You can then treat the wounded area with cooling gels.<\/p>\n
