A team of American researchers has discovered a type of bacteria that lives on the skin. This type of bacteria has an anti-inflammatory effect and relieves swelling around small wounds on the skin.<\/p>\n

The theory that excessive hygiene causes allergies has been around since 1989. This theory has been confirmed by the discovery of these bacteria. Although this information is not new, there are still many hygiene-obsessed parents who do not allow their children to play in the dirt for fear of germs. However, if a child is not exposed to normal environmental influences, the immune system turns round and fights its own body, leading to allergies and autoimmune diseases.<\/p>\n

The harmless bacteria living on the skin inhibit inflammation around an open wound by producing a molecule that acts on the main cell types in the outer layer of the skin, the keratinocytes. The discovery of these bacteria helps us to better understand hygiene and the immune system and forms the basis for new treatments for inflammatory skin diseases. What the experts then recommend to parents is to let them play in the dirt without worrying and then wash them with normal, non-antibacterial soap. It is of course important to regularly update the usual vaccinations.<\/p>\n

Vaccinations are an artificial way of exposing people to bacteria so that their body's own defence system reacts to the bacteria and makes the body immune without getting sick. In our society, mothers often feel pressurised and think they are not good parents if they are not obsessed with hygiene and cleanliness. This doesn't mean that we should let our children go to seed, a certain level of cleanliness is just as important as getting enough sleep, eating well, staying hydrated and avoiding stress.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
