For example, nutrition is not only subject to the yin-yang principle, but is also characterised according to five elements.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The number 5 is made up of two, the number of the earth (yin) and three, the number of heaven (yang) and forms the foundation for the five phases of transformation.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The five elements of Qi are water, wood, fire, earth and metal. There are generative transformation phases according to which, for example, water produces wood, in which it makes trees grow; wood produces fire, fire becomes earth, which in turn produces metal, which forms water.<\/p>\n<p>In the overcoming transformation phases, water overcomes fire, fire overcomes metal (metal becomes malleable in fire), metal overcomes wood. Wood overcomes earth and earth overcomes water.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The five elements are based on the seasons, organs, flavours and cardinal points, among other things:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wood<\/strong>East, spring, liver, gall bladder, sour.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fire<\/strong>: South, summer, heart, small intestine, bitter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Earth<\/strong>: Middle, late summer, spleen, stomach, sweet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Metal<\/strong>: West, autumn, lung, large intestine, spicy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Water<\/strong>North, winter, kidneys, bladder, salty.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In traditional Chinese medicine, the human body is regarded as a being built into the cosmos.
