Roasted coffee beans contain more than 800 different flavourings, more than most other foods and beverages.

Although there are around 60 types of bean, only two varieties are generally sold in Germany: Arabica and Robusta.

Arabica beans, which mostly come from South America, are milder, while Robusta beans ripen much faster and contain almost twice as much caffeine.

In the past, it was claimed that regular coffee consumption was to blame for high blood pressure and high cholesterol. In fact, coffee consumption only temporarily increases blood pressure in people who are not used to coffee and has no effect at all on blood pressure levels when consumed regularly. Cholesterol only increases slightly and only with unfiltered coffee.

It is now known that coffee is not unhealthy, but actually very healthy. The caffeine contained in coffee energises the body and mind. In addition, the polyphenols in coffee act as antioxidants and inhibit cell-damaging substances. Regular coffee consumption is said to reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and liver cancer, and is also said to reduce the risk of diabetes by 30%. Of course, this applies to coffee that is drunk without sugar.

Espresso is often served with a glass of water to compensate for the loss of fluids caused by coffee. This is not necessary, as coffee has been proven not to be a dehydrator.

If you want to drink coffee as a quick pick-me-up, the best way to do this is with a cup of espresso, which works quickly but contains less caffeine and acidity than conventional coffee and is therefore easier on the stomach.

Kaffee hat den Ruf, Bluthochdruck und zu hohen Cholesterin zu verursachen und soll ausserdem dem Körper Flüssigkeit entziehen.
