Not only do we humans voluntarily allow ourselves to be manipulated and fooled, we actually beg for it. By following the news, buying newspapers and greedily absorbing every incident - it should be as bad and bloodthirsty as possible, otherwise we won't buy the newspaper in the first place.

Let me give you an example: a few years ago, as if on an invisible command, all the fighting dogs in the world started going crazy. Suddenly they started attacking people indiscriminately, mainly children, because that made them feel better. But just as suddenly as it started, the fighting dogs also stopped tearing their masters apart again, namely at the exact moment when a new report of a dog gone wild no longer knocked anyone's socks off. Coincidence? Well, who knows.

Does anyone remember SARS? In 2003, there was a worldwide panic because an incurable and deadly viral flu was spreading in Asian countries. Every Asian on German streets was suspected of having brought this disease to Germany from their home country (or the home country of their ancestors). The images on television showed hooded and masked people on the streets of Hong Kong and Singapore. The naked fear was written on their faces, that even the face mask could not ward off the disease. I remember that I had a two-day stopover in Singapore on my way to New Zealand at exactly the same time. I myself had had no idea about the weeks of panic until the day before my departure, because I hadn't followed the news. Unfortunately, someone had to tell me the day before how dangerous it was to fly to Singapore. It was too late anyway, the trip was booked and I wasn't going to let it be ruined.

In the two days I spent in Singapore, I didn't see a single person wearing a face mask, and there was no sign of panic at all anyway. (I didn't get sick either, by the way). So what was the point of it all?

So after SARS was forgotten, it was replaced by bird flu and swine flu. Let's see what comes next.

One interesting example is global warming. A hot topic in the media for years with gloomy predictions for the future. Unfortunately, nature shows us how small and insignificant we are by not making the summers hotter and hotter and the winters milder and milder, on the contrary: rainy and cool summers and extremely cold winters have delighted us in recent years. Advocates of global warming now say, of course, that "warming" is not to be taken literally, but rather that it is about more extreme temperatures in both directions. Huh?

People have only been observing the weather for a few hundred years. Compared to the duration of the earth's existence, it is like a second. How can I allow myself to judge a graph if I can only see a minimal section of it? Numerous geologists support the theory that we are still in the upward curve after the last ice age, i.e. that a systematic rise in temperature is normal. But that doesn't sell newspapers.

Let's move on to my last example, the most popular buzzword on everyone's lips at the moment: TERRORISTS.

There have always been terrorists and there always will be. But after 11 September, the terrorist origin of which is doubtful to some, the press shamelessly exploits the fear of the population. It can happen to anyone, anywhere.

Fear is important if you want to manipulate and control people. We don't feel restricted in our freedom that we are catalogued with fingerprints when we enter America or that we are no longer allowed to take practically anything on board an aircraft. No, we are grateful because we feel protected. Not to mention the cameras that follow our every move on the street.

Have you ever thought about the fact that terrorism would not be possible without the media? There's no point in trying to spread fear and terror if nobody knows about it.

The numerous terrorist attacks by our enemies, the Muslims, have thus ensured that America (has) turned into a police state. And even quite openly. The protectors call themselves "Homeland Security": Staats-Siever heard of it?!

None of this would have been possible without the press, because manipulating the masses without the media is unthinkable. However, we ourselves are to blame for this, because we buy the newspapers.

> One thing is certain, there is no cure for stupidity.
