It is mainly women in the menopause who suffer from hormonally induced constipation. But there are some things you can do to stimulate bowel activity again without taking medication.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><strong>Nutrition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">High-fibre foods such as wholemeal products and muesli are important to stimulate the bowels. White flour products should be avoided if you suffer from intestinal laziness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">Food should be chewed long and thoroughly in the mouth, as the saying goes: well chewed is half digested. The enzymes in the saliva begin to break down the food in the mouth and thus facilitate digestion in the intestine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">Sufficient fluid intake is very important. You should drink 2 litres of water or herbal tea a day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">Foods known to be constipating should of course be avoided at all costs if you have digestive problems. These include chocolate, bananas and black tea or coffee. On the other hand, plenty of fresh fruit such as apples, pears or strawberries should be eaten.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">You should not eat more than 500g of meat per week if you suffer from intestinal laziness or constipation. Poultry and fish are better.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\"><strong>Movement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">You should exercise or go for a walk for at least half an hour every day to stimulate bowel function. If you sweat during exercise, you should of course replace the lost fluid afterwards.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-bottom: 0in;\">Relaxation is just as important as exercise.
