The Neemrana Fort Palace is a 15th century fort that has been converted into a resort. The fort is located on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway in Rajasthan, about 100 kilometres from Delhi.
For twenty years, the ruins of the fortress were lovingly restored with great attention to detail and transformed into a lively recreation centre for celebrations, conferences and weekend excursions from the big city.
The fort is perched on the top of a hill above the smog that otherwise veils the Indian sky. Under a bright blue sky, you can wander through 2.5 hectares of gardens and terraces built into the hill on twelve levels.
The winding construction invites you to explore and is also fun for children. However, children should not be allowed to run around on their own, as there are dangerous overhangs.
As the ruins are constantly being renovated, a line of donkeys loaded with stones and cement occasionally passes through the complex. On foot and with donkeys is the only method of transporting work materials up the steep paths.
The Neemrana Fort Palace is one of 25 Neemrana hotels that are more than just accommodation. The ancient charm of the fort has been preserved so that guests can experience history live. On weekends, cultural performances are held in the fort's open-air theatre, organised by the Neemrana Music Foundation. Leading Indian musicians and foreign artists entertain guests every Saturday.
Activities at Neemrana Fort Palace
Zip wire. Above the fairytale fort, adrenaline-hungry visitors will find a zip wire from which they can admire the fortress from lofty heights. The zip wire is very popular and must be booked at the hotel reception.
Camel cart. If you've had enough roaming around the gardens and terraces, you can take a camel cart ride outside the hotel to explore the surrounding area.
Swimming pools. aThe resort has two swimming pools, one of which is heated. The swimming pool on the Raj Kund Plateau has a sun deck with a fantastic view of the valley.
Spa and treatments. Neemrana's Ayurvedic spa calms the nerves and revitalises the energy. A range of different health treatments are also available here, including massage and yoga. There is also a fitness room. However, the treatments on offer cost extra.
Hike underground. You hike up the sand dunes and from there walk 9 storeys deep into the interior of the hill.
Celebrations. Weddings and other celebrations are regularly held in the numerous indoor and outdoor function rooms, which can comfortably accommodate 100 people, the amphitheatre 200 and the gardens up to 300.
Rooms at Neemrana Fort Palace
The fort has sixty rooms for a total of 150 guests. There are 10 luxury suites, 7 suites, 8 large rooms and around 30 normal rooms. The rooms are not numerically differentiated but are individually named.
Prices range from a simple single room for 2500 rupees to a 4-bed suite for 22000 rupees per night. A simple double room is available from 4000 rupees. In the low season from May to August there is a 20% discount.
The breakfast buffet is included in the room rate. The breakfast offers fresh cakes, bread with jam, muesli and warm Indian dishes.
Lunch and dinner must be paid for separately and cost 900 and 1000 rupees plus tax respectively.
