Australia is a beautiful country with many natural wonders. Millions of tourists visit Australia's sights every year. Depending on the season, some parts of the country are preferable to visit.
If you do a little research before you travel, your stay in Australia can be even more enjoyable.
Here are some general tips for travelling in Australia.

  • Australia is huge. So if you only have limited time, limit yourself to a few destinations. Choose your activities according to the time of year you want to travel. Then decide which regions seem most interesting for the time you have available.

  • Learn how to read an Australian menu. The main courses are usually like American dishes. Entree means starter.

  • Enjoy the numerous outdoor activities. Go to a sporting event if it's nearby. Cricket is played in summer, which is from October to March. The best place for diving is the Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef in the world.

  • Look right before you cross the road. It's instinctive to look left first, but in Australia people drive on the left-hand side of the road.

  • Familiarise yourself with the traffic rules.

  • If you're travelling through the outbacks, take plenty of water with you. Also, let someone know your plan for the day. Inland Australia is very vast and the distances between places can be several hundred kilometres. If your car breaks down, it's important that you have enough to drink until someone comes looking for you. There are large areas where there is no mobile phone reception. However, special vehicles occasionally pass by looking for stranded drivers to provide assistance.

  • Reservations for trains should be made well in advance, especially between November and February, the peak tourist season. Buying tickets well in advance can also save you considerable money, as tickets are often cheaper. Trains are often fully booked well in advance when travelling between major cities. Ask a travel agent for advice.
