As in German, new trendy words are constantly developing in the English language whose translation cannot be found in the dictionary.

One of these new trend words, increasingly used among younger people, is "redonk" or "redonkulous".

These words are not real words in the English language. "Redonkulous" is derived from "ridiculous". "Redonk" is a shortened form of the same word.

The reason why "ridiculous" was modified is simply that it sounds cool and trendy.

 

However, the word part "donk" in "ridonkulous" is a real word. It is onomatopoeia for the sound that occurs when two objects collide.

 

So 'redonk/ridonkulous' is just a cool and funny sounding variation of 'ridiculous', put together with the onomatopoeia 'donk'. However, the word holds a bit more weight than 'ridiculous',it's kind of a step up, e.g. something is not just ridiculous, it's totally "redonk"!
