You probably know this about yourself: when you hear a recording of your own voice, you feel like crawling away. Your own voice sounds boring, thin and squeaky and so completely unprofessional. You are not alone in this, because it is quite normal to find a recording of your own voice stupid.

This is simply because we hear our own voice every day, not just through our ears, but in our heads. Other people's voices only reach us through our ears. The vibrations of the sound send a "pressure wave" into the pinna and through the auditory canal so that the brain can interpret the sound heard. 

However, when you speak yourself, you hear your voice in your head through the internal vibrations of your vocal cords and also through your ears. This makes your voice sound fuller and more voluminous to yourself. Of course, this volume is missing when you listen to your voice on a recording and the internal vibrations in your head are missing.
