
Consciously or unconsciously, you receive hidden signals through other people's body language. Find out what your gestures and movements unconsciously reveal about you.
Eye contact
In conversation, direct eye contact reveals interest in the other person. If you look the other person in the eye while they are speaking, you are obviously interested in listening. But be careful, avoid staring! Uninterrupted eye contact can come across as aggressive and threatening. When communicating with other people, it is advisable to look the other person directly in the eye about 70 per cent of the time, i.e. occasionally let your gaze wander to the side.
Crossed arms
Crossing your arms when talking to others makes you look insecure, distant, anxious, defensive or stubborn. However, there are also times when crossed arms are positive. It can lead to increased concentration. Statistically speaking, people who are asked difficult questions or tasks and who tend to cross their arms are a third more successful in solving or mastering them. The process of crossing the arms stimulates both hemispheres of the brain and thus creates increased cognitive function.
Spread legs while sitting
Dominant people instinctively take up more space than necessary. That's why spreading your legs when sitting expresses that you are consciously or unconsciously expanding your territory. It is therefore often considered rude if a visitor to your home takes up too much space on the couch.
Crossed legs
Crossed legs when sitting expresses a different form of dominance. The person is not trying to spread his territory excessively, but is projecting self-confidence and determination.
If you cross not only your knees but also your ankles, this can have the opposite effect. This makes you look insecure, reserved and cautious. Crossed ankles are therefore often seen at job interviews and interviews.
Hands on hips
Putting your hands on your hips doesn't look confident, but aggressive and threatening. The pointed elbows make it clear that you don't want to let anyone get close to you. Even if you only put one hand on your hip, it looks intimidating.
