1. fear of flying

Although flying is statistically one of the safest modes of transport, flying causes anxiety or at least nervousness in 80% of all people. Perhaps this is due to the fact that, unlike driving a car, flying is not an everyday occurrence for most people. The feeling of having no control over your destiny and being in a confined space that you can't get out of at will also contributes to the discomfort.

2. speech anxiety

Speech anxiety is the fear of speaking in front of a group of people whose attention is focussed solely on you. Even people who regularly appear in public can still suffer from pre-performance nerves.

3. fear of heights

Fear of high buildings or any other distance from the ground is one of the most widespread fears of mankind. Many people live with this fear by trying to avoid heights. Those who suffer from a fear of heights can experience anything from mild dizziness to severe physical symptoms and a fear of their own unpredictability (i.e. jumping).

4. fear of the dark

Fear of the dark mainly affects children, but can also persist into adulthood. It is one of the "irrational" fears and should be treated, especially in adults.

5. fear of trust and closeness

Many people don't let others get close to them for fear of being rejected or failing in some way. They always keep a distance, even from their partner and family. This fear is usually coupled with a fear of failure and a fear of change.

6. fear of death

Thanotophobia affects millions of people around the world. This includes not only the fear of one's own death, but also the fear of dead living beings and everything associated with death.

7. fear of failure

Fear of failure is very understandable in our social structure. Even, or especially, successful people suffer from not being able to achieve something. Unfortunately, our society is often measured by what you have achieved in life. So it's no wonder that the fear of failure is becoming more and more widespread.

8. fear of rejection

Everyone wants to be accepted. Anyone who suffers from a fear of rejection avoids situations in which they could be rejected in order not to lose the feeling of love for their neighbour and acceptance.

9. fear of spiders

The fear of spiders, although very common, is a very irrational fear when you consider the size of a normal house spider and what such a spider could actually do. But for many people, the mere sight of a spider triggers a shudder.

10. fear of commitment

More often it is men who suffer from it, but many people experience some form of commitment anxiety at different stages of their lives. It is usually a relationship commitment that people are afraid of; fear of committing themselves and inevitably steering their lives in a certain direction.
