A new catalogue of fines will apply from 1 February 2009. Traffic offences, which are frequent causes of accidents, will become significantly more expensive.

These are the changes to the catalogue of fines:

outside built-up areas

26 - 30 km/h 80 €
31 - 40 km/h 120 €
41 - 50 km/h 160 €

Minimum distance to the car in front at a speed of more than 130 km/h

Distance less than 5/10 of half the speedometer value €100
Distance less than 3/10 of half the speedometer value € 240

Obstructing left-hand driving on the motorway €80

Traffic light

Driving through a red light 90 €
- jeopardising 200 €
Traffic light red for more than 1 second € 200
