Snoring is a burden for every couple. If your partner snores, it has a huge impact on your sleep, your ability to cope with stress in everyday life and therefore your relationship with your partner. Half of all people in a relationship state that their partner snores.

Around one to three hours of sleep is lost each night due to the sound of snoring. Snoring usually measures between 60 and 90 decibels, which is equivalent to a jackhammer.

Lack of sleep results in irritability, daytime sleepiness, memory and concentration problems. This worsens productivity and causes stress and arguments between partners.

Snoring also has a negative effect on your love life. Not only do many people feel less sexually attracted to their partner when they snore, some even prefer to sleep in separate bedrooms.

Snoring is now so common that it is almost accepted as normal. Two thirds of all couples with snoring problems do nothing to improve the situation.

For occasional snorers, it often works to nudge or gently shake your partner. This wakes them up briefly and they sink into a more comfortable position in which they no longer snore. Unfortunately, this method does not work for regular snorers.

In most cases, the snorer is not even aware that they have a snoring problem, so it is usually left to the non-snoring partner to take steps to resolve the problem.

The usual methods to combat snoring are losing weight, changing your sleeping position, etc. However, there are also measures that the non-snoring partner can take to improve their sleep. A larger bed can work wonders. Sleeping just 30 or 40cm further away from the snorer makes a difference. You can wear earplugs to reduce the noise level or have soft, relaxing music playing in the background.

Snoring should not simply be accepted if it disturbs and hinders your partner in their everyday life. If all the remedial measures do not help, the snorer must undergo therapy. If he does not want to go voluntarily, the partner should give him an ultimatum.
