Men and women lie about different things. When women lie, they usually do so to increase the self-esteem of their counterpart. A man's lie, on the other hand, is based on his male ego. When men lie, they want to put themselves in a better light.

1. "I was the best in the class"

Whether at school or at work, the male ego determines that he has to impress. Men find it difficult to admit defeat or "failure", even if it only means that they didn't do the best.

2. "I like your girlfriends"

Such lies are used to seduce a woman or to bind her to him. So if he tells her that he likes her friends, parents or dog, she should observe how he actually behaves towards them. Depending on how this sentence is said, it often serves to cover up contrary feelings.

3. "You're the best in bed"

Sex is one of the things that men lie about most often, because this is where her ego is most sensitive. If the man assures her that she's the best in bed, he wants to stroke her ego and make her willing towards him. Unfortunately, this backfires in the long run if there are things the man would rather change about her love life, because if he tells her for years that she is the best, he can't suddenly make suggestions for improvement without exposing his lie. This can severely limit his love life and sexual desires.

4. "I can't tell you where I'll be today"

A lie like that can be the beginning of the end of a relationship. He doesn't want to tell her where he's going because it would probably hurt her. The tone of voice in such a sentence is crucial and can tell her whether he is lying or not.

5. "The dress is not too tight, it looks great!"

Even if there is a good intention behind this lie, it can end badly for the woman. The man tells her what she wants to hear, but if it's not true and the dress doesn't really look great, she will find out sooner or later and then be all the more humiliated. But often the man just wants to make life easy for himself. He just says it looks great so he can get on with his business and leaves her to her fate.

6 "Don't worry, they won't sack me"

On the one hand, this lie is based on a man's protective instinct, because he wants to spare his loved ones from worrying about his job and future as much as he already does. On the other hand, of course, it suits the male ego perfectly, because he is "the best everywhere" and so he won't be dismissed.

7. "I'll help you with the housework as soon as my back is better"

What a man fears most (even if he would never admit it) is anger from his partner. That's why he lies to avoid a scene. When it comes to tasks that he doesn't actually want to do, he lies to get out of the situation without causing an outburst of anger from his wife.

8. "I wanted to surprise you"

He has actually forgotten his birthday, but he doesn't want to admit it. Now he has to act quickly and organise his surprise, even if it means blaming supposed suppliers on the phone who have messed up the surprise gift he never ordered. He knows that women are offended when you forget birthdays, so he tries everything to avoid the confrontation.
