What can you do to save electricity and reduce your electricity bill?

Light

Use only energy-saving light bulbs. They are proportionally cheaper than conventional light bulbs because energy-saving bulbs last much longer. In addition, as the name suggests, they consume less energy. If you use energy-saving light bulbs throughout your house, you can reduce your electricity bill by up to 25%.
When no one is in the room, always switch off the light. This sounds banal, but in fact a lot of energy is wasted because we are often too lazy to switch off the light.
It is also advisable to replace some light switches with dimmers. Often you don't need very bright light and can turn the dimmer all the way down.

Computer

Nowadays, computers are used a lot in the home, for work, study or entertainment. Often enough, computers are switched on throughout the day, even though they are not used or only used a little. We have become accustomed to simply leaving the computer on when we might want to use it again in two hours. This saves a lot of electricity if you switch off the computer after use, or at least put it on standby to reduce energy consumption. Uploading a computer usually takes no more than 2-3 minutes, but for the short time it takes, you can save cash.

Washing machine and dryer

Washing machines and tumble dryers are the main electricity consumers in a normal household. But you don't always have to use the dryer. In summer, the laundry usually dries well on its own.
As for the washing machine, when buying a new washing machine, make sure it is energy efficient. Washing machines marked AAA consume the least energy.

Laundry should also be divided into less dirty and boil laundry. Not everything has to be washed at high temperatures. Things that are not dirty but only worn can also be washed at 30 degrees. Basically, wash at low temperatures.

Television

The TV is often on in the background even though no one is watching. This is a completely unnecessary waste of energy. As an alternative, we also like to put the TV on standby so that we can conveniently switch it on with the remote control at any time. Compared to the electricity costs we incur by doing this, the effort to switch the TV back on immediately before use is very small.
This applies to all units with a standby function.

Electric heating

Electric radiators are real power guzzlers. If no central heating is available, it is better to use alternative heating methods. The most energy-efficient are gas radiators that are operated with small butane gas cylinders.

Electric cooker

Since the electric cooker also consumes a lot of electricity, especially high current, there are a few tips on how to save energy.
Make use of the inherent heat of the cooker tops. Often you can turn off the cooker when the food still has to simmer for five minutes. It is important to leave the lid on the pot so that the inherent heat does not escape so quickly.
If you want to boil water, for example for tea, it is much faster and more energy-saving to boil the water in a kettle than in a pot on the electric cooker.
