Whether gas or electric, a hob inevitably gets dirty when cooking and needs to be cleaned regularly to prevent dirt from sticking. Stains from hot fat, egg or sauces can quickly stick to the hob, and the longer the dirt sticks to the surface, the more difficult it is to get it off.
In addition, acidic stains, such as those from tomato sauce, attack the surface of the hob after a while. Frequent cleaning not only keeps the cooker looking good, but also makes cooking more hygienic. You can make your own environmentally friendly cooker cleaner using simple household products.
Pour about a quarter cup of baking soda, half a cup of borax and half a cup of clear vinegar into a bowl. Add one to two litres of warm water to the mixture. Stir everything together well and pour into a spray bottle.
Allow the mixture to cool before use. Then spray the cooker surfaces generously, including the knobs. Rub the surface thoroughly with a cloth or sponge and then wipe clean with a clean, damp cloth.
Spray the mixture in concentrated form onto dried stains and carefully loosen with a wooden scraper.
Tip: Wipe the hob with a damp cloth after every cooking session to prevent stains from forming. Do not use abrasive sponges, as these will scratch the surface of the hob.
