Never lose your keys again

Key ring

We've all been there: the bunch of keys with the car keys, house keys and flat keys seems to have vanished into thin air again, and just when you're in a particular hurry. Although it happens to everyone at least once, there are those of us who notoriously misplace or lose our keys. The most logical solution to this problem would of course be to always put the keys in the same place when entering the house, but not all of us have this ability.

If you're one of those busy people who constantly misplace their keys, you might find a few useful tips here.

Misplacing things is annoying, but with keys it can be disastrous. Perhaps the following tips will help you.

How can you avoid having to search for your keys all the time?

- Try a special place for the key right next to the front door. Place a small bowl on the first shelf you see when you come in. This may help you to train yourself to put the keys there immediately and always, as it is the most convenient place anyway. Mark the bowl for the key ring with bright colours as an eye-catcher.

- Tie the keys to a chain or string around your neck. Try to always wear them around your neck.

- Attach a particularly eye-catching key ring to your bunch of keys. This makes it easier to find your keys again if you misplace them.

- Buy an electronic key finder. The devices are available in different models and find keys within a radius of 10-20 metres. Depending on the model, the device produces a loud beeping sound or a flickering light when it has located the keys.

- Easier said than done, but try to keep things more organised and change bad habits. Constantly searching through clutter wastes a lot of time that could be put to much better use elsewhere. Try to work on yourself.

- Sit down at least once a day and relax. Learn yoga or meditation. Relaxing improves brain function and thus prevents forgetfulness and absent-mindedness. A fast-paced lifestyle with hectic pace and stress inevitably breeds mental confusion that makes you forgetful.

- Keep a copy of every key on your keyring just in case. This spare set of keys should be kept in a safe place and really only be taken out in an emergency, otherwise it will also get lost. And remember: if you have lost your original set of keys and need to get out your spare key, go to the locksmith on the same day and have a copy made of all the keys, which can then go into the drawer.
