Eat strawberries without getting your fingers dirty: Skewer the fresh strawberries on a straw or toothpick and enjoy.

Rub small scratches on wooden furniture with a walnut. This conceals dents and scratch marks.

If the children have once again drawn on the wall or television with wax crayons, you can wipe away the marks with lubricating oil (WD40).

A chopped apple in a breakfast bag will not brown so quickly if you hold the pieces tightly together with a rubber band so that only the skin comes into contact with the air.

Fold matching sets of bed linen into a pillowcase. This way, everything stays together and you don't have to search for the individual items in the wardrobe.

An iPod, MP player, mobile phone or iPad can be placed in a bowl to amplify the sound.

Tidy up the children's room: plush toys can be easily attached to the wall with a Velcro strip and also look pretty.

The hoover can help in the search for small items that have fallen to the floor: wrap a piece of nylon stocking over the hoover nozzle and vacuum. The lost earring will stick to the nylon without being sucked up.

Cake to go: Bake cake batter in ice-cream cones, so the cake can be taken away and is easier to eat without crumbs.

More space in the sink cabinet: Attach a crossbar under the sink and hang spray bottles on it. This leaves the cupboard base free for other items.

More order in the cupboard: store and label Easter decorations and Christmas baubles in egg cartons.
