People who go on holiday are particularly at risk of burglary. To minimise the risk of major damage, here are the basic security tips for your home.
1. strategically hide valuables
The first place burglars look for valuables is the master bedroom. So it makes little sense to hide your valuables there. Less obvious hiding places are among the children's toys, hidden in socks in the laundry basket or under the food. Not all valuables should be hidden in the same place. In the long term, of course, it also makes sense to install a wall safe.
2. make the alarm system invisible
The alarm system display should not be visible from the outside. This way, burglars cannot see whether the alarm is activated or watch you enter the security code.
3. no door with letter slot
Doors with a built-in letter slot are easier to kick in. A letterbox is better. Dangerous objects can also be thrown into the house through a letter slot.
4. make windows on the ground floor more difficult to access
If you can't get in through the door, try a window. That's why you should make it as difficult as possible to get in through the nearby windows on the ground floor. Thorn bushes growing directly under the window are a good option.
5. unsubscribe mail
Overflowing letterboxes are a clear sign to burglars that nobody is at home. If you are away for a longer period of time, cancel or redirect your mail or have it collected by a neighbour.
