A mattress usually lasts about 10 years, but if you take good care of it, it can remain in use for a few years longer and improve your sleeping comfort.

Tips for caring for a mattress

1. most people tend to sleep in the same place in bed. This leads to uneven wear of the springs that keep the mattress in shape. To minimise wear and the formation of dents in the mattress, it should be turned every fortnight for the first three months after purchase. Later on, it is sufficient to turn the mattress every two months. First turn the mattress from the foot end to the head end, then turn the underside upwards.

2 To keep the mattress free of stains, it is best to use a high-quality, washable mattress topper.

3. a stable bed frame ensures that the mattress does not sag in the centre and lose its shape as a result. Large double beds and French beds should have an additional support in the centre of the bed frame.

4. to remove stains, use a mild soapy solution with cold water and rub with a cotton cloth. Do not use corrosive chemicals, as these can degrade the material and filling of the mattress.

5. do not strain the mattress by jumping around on the bed.
