More and more people are deciding to give up smoking in the face of the new health trend. This makes the good ashtrays in the house useless. But instead of throwing away the old ashtrays, one can think of alternative uses. After all, it is also more environmentally friendly to put existing items to good use and not produce more waste than necessary.

There are many possibilities for ashtrays that are no longer used for their intended purpose. For example, an ashtray can be converted into a bird bath or frog bath in the garden. Admittedly, at first glance it does not seem desirable to make the garden attractive for frogs. However, frogs are actually very useful for the hobby gardener. Frogs feed mainly on annoying insects in the garden and the outer leaves of vegetable plants that would not be taken for human consumption anyway. On other plants, too, the frogs only take away the outer foliage, making the plant more beautiful and vigorous. 

The best use for a discarded ashtray is for something that benefits the environment. Instead of throwing them away, they can find good use for years to come. However, the ashtrays should first be thoroughly cleaned of any ash residue that could harm birds or frogs. To repurpose an old ashtray as a birdbath or frog bath, the following steps should be followed:

Clean the ashtray thoroughly. The best way is to use hot water and soap to completely scrub off the nicotine that has accumulated over the years. Then rinse again thoroughly with clear water to remove any soap residue. 

Frogs prefer shady and damp places in the garden. The old ashtray should be placed there. The more frog baths are placed, the better the choice for the frogs. 

Dig a hollow in the ground the size of the ashtray and place the ashtray in it. The upper edge of the ashtray should be level with the ground. 

Place a flat stone in the middle of the ashtray. Frogs like to sit in the water with their heads above the surface. To be on the safe side, you can glue the stone in place so that it is not thrown out by other animals. Of course, don't forget to fill it with fresh water. 

For birdbaths, all you need to do is place the ashtrays in clearly visible places among flowers. Birds can easily perch on the edge, so it is not necessary to bury the ashtray as long as it does not tip over.
