Better and more restful sleep with grain pillows

Grain pillow

Pillows filled with herbs, spelt, rye, millet, wheat, cherry stones or grape seeds instead of down or foam can help to improve sleep and relieve tension and tension-related pain.

The grains in grain pillows adapt to the natural curvature of the cervical spine and thus support the back in the lying position. The improved sleeping position relaxes the back muscles and relieves pressure on the intervertebral discs.

When lying on the pillow, the head presses an individual imprint into the centre punch, which supports the posture of the head. Lying on a pillow is particularly recommended for cervical spine complaints, as it adapts to the body and sleeping posture.

Grain cushions also absorb the heat given off by the body and slowly release it back into the body. In summer, this provides a pleasant cooling effect.

Grain pillows can also be used as a substitute for a hot water bottle, as the grains store heat and cold particularly well. Before going to bed, the pillows are warmed slowly in the oven so that they gradually release the heat into the body at night. Heat therapy helps to relieve headaches, tension and flu-like infections.

The herbal cushions are also very suitable for cold compresses. They are placed in the freezer for a while and then pressed onto the desired area. They release the cold more slowly and effectively than a conventional cold compress.

Some pillows are filled with pleasantly scented herbs such as lavender or rosemary. The aroma of the herbs has a calming effect on the nervous system and ensures restful sleep.

Use and care of the grain cushion

To heat the grain or herbal pillow, place it in the oven at around 40 degrees. Heating in the microwave can cause very high temperatures to build up inside the cushion too quickly, which can lead to burns on the skin or smouldering fires.

To cool the pillow, place it in an airtight plastic bag in the freezer. The plastic bag prevents the grains from building up moisture and keeps the pillow hygienic.

A grain pillow should be shaken well every day and is best left to dry in the sun or air. Every few weeks you can remove the filling from the pillow and wash the cover in the washing machine at low temperatures.
