The smell of a brand new car is unmistakable and almost everyone likes it. Unfortunately for us, the 'new car smell' disappears after a few weeks, so many people wonder whether it is possible to copy the smell so that a used car also smells like a brand new car.

Where exactly does the smell of the new car come from?

For most people, the pleasant odour of a new car comes from the various materials used inside the car. Upholstery, leather and various types of plastic, plus the glue used to hold these materials together, emit their gases for a while.

 

It is a combination of so-called volatile organic compounds (VOCs), primarily alkanes, benzene substitutes, aldehyde and ketone.

 

You can buy the 'new car smell' in aerosol cans, but you should bear in mind that the fumes from these substances are toxic and sometimes carcinogenic. No matter how good it smells, perhaps the owner of a used car should be grateful that the toxic gases have already evaporated instead of deliberately exposing himself to these chemicals.
