Difficult situations in road traffic are the most frequent cause of accidents. Modern cars have built-in electronic assistance systems to support the driver in a difficult situation.

 

The most important electronic assistance systems for the car

ESP. An electronic stability programme with brake assist (ABS), which prevents the vehicle from skidding if it skids on slippery or wet roads. ESP is particularly recommended for novice drivers.

Pre-Safe system. The system analyses an accident situation and activates the brakes and belt tensioners, closes the windows and sunroof and raises the seat backrest. This system is very useful for the occupants of the vehicle.

City-Safety. This is an emergency brake with person detection that recognises pedestrians and cyclists. This is very useful in city traffic, as the emergency brake is activated up to 30 km/h after a collision warning. Vulnerable road users are thus better protected.

Blind Spot Assist. The approach of a following vehicle is registered by radar and video. The driver is warned by light and sound signals. Blind Spot Assist is particularly helpful for drivers with limited manoeuvrability.

Parking assistant. The driver is supported by ultrasonic and radar sensors or a camera when parking the vehicle. Parking assistants that require you to look at a screen are less recommendable. Systems that can park independently are better.

Built-in electronic assistants support the driver and often prevent accidents. This not only saves a lot of bodywork damage, but also saves lives.
