Make your own modelling clay

Homemade colourful modelling clay for children
All children love modelling clay and it is especially important for small children to know what is in it. Although children's modelling clay is not toxic, as there are regulations governing this, there are still parents who swear by playing it safe and making things themselves wherever possible.

For these parents and, of course, for all those who enjoy doing interesting activities with their children, here is a recipe for making great modelling clay yourself.

You need:

400g flour
100g alum powder (from the pharmacy)
200g salt
2 tbsp oil
1 packet of food colouring
½ litre boiling water

First dissolve the food colouring in boiling water, then mix in the oil, salt and alum powder. Now gradually add the flour, first with a spoon, then gently with your hands, until you have a kneadable dough.

If you want to make several colours of modelling clay, you can of course mix different food colours with the ingredients, in which case you knead the colour into the finished dough, which you have divided into pieces, until it is well distributed.

To store the modelling clay, an airtight container or a plastic bag is sufficient.

The modelling clay can be reused for a long time and is easy to remove from places where it does not belong.

The kneaded figures can be left to dry in the air.

Have fun!
