The apple and rice diet lasts one to a maximum of two days and serves to thoroughly drain and detoxify the body. Stored water (e.g. during pregnancy, menstruation, high blood pressure, kidney disorders and oedema) is flushed out of the body by the high potassium intake. This increased excretion of water is called diuresis.
For the apple and rice diet, cook a cup of polished or wholemeal rice in unsalted water in the morning. The rice is divided into 5 portions, which are eaten throughout the day. Each portion of rice is accompanied by a grated apple.
Drink about 2 litres of still mineral water or herbal tea (e.g. oat tea) throughout the day.
To be on the safe side, the diet should be discussed with your family doctor beforehand.
