The most important thing is to make it convincingly clear to the company why you are the right candidate. If you do this because you are convinced yourself, this is already a big advantage.

Admittedly, it is not about convincing where you yourself do not believe in your abilities at all, but rather about standing out positively against the other applicants.

You can only do this if you suggest to the employer from the outset that they will not get anyone better than you for the job.

If you have been invited to an interview, the first hurdle has been taken.

Now it's time to convince in the first ten minutes of the interview so that you leave a lasting, consistently positive impression.

This can be practised, because for many people it is only the belief in their own abilities that is lacking, not the abilities themselves.

The people who are responsible for recruitment in the companies and who conduct interviews confirm that the first ten minutes of the interview form the overall picture of the person in such a way that after that, in the vast majority of cases, they are already in a position to make a decision for or against a candidate.

What is important in the first ten minutes of an interview?

Below we explain the crucial details. You will be surprised to learn that these are by no means unknown secrets, but rather things that have been advised since time immemorial. So not much has changed, despite the use of increasingly sophisticated strategies by companies to attract suitable candidates, it is the traditionally important considerations that matter most.

Clothes

Anyone who thinks they can save on clothing and appearance because the standards are no longer very strict these days is mistaken. It is still true that attractive, elegant clothes that are well coordinated in colour and do not look worn out enhance the overall appearance of a candidate many times over.

So don't skimp more than necessary when choosing what to wear for interviews, rather appear much better dressed than you normally would, it always pays off.

Appearance

Even if you find it difficult to control your nervousness in the face of such an important appointment, there are ways to reduce it somewhat, because if people notice that you are too nervous, it will affect your persuasiveness.

Make sure you arrive at the interview venue some time early, this will give you time to calm down and work on your first impression again.

Don't forget that contact with the other employees of the company can also be important, because often their opinions about you will be consulted, along the lines of: "What did you think of him/her?"

The same applies to the interview itself. The more relaxed and natural you can talk to the person interviewing you, the better. Being able to freely add details or to conduct the interview on a more relaxed level is more pleasant for any head of department or personnel manager than having to manoeuvre a tense, nervous person through the interview.

This is especially important if the person interviewing is your future direct supervisor who will be working side by side with you.

For him, the human side counts just as much as professional skills and qualifications.

Body language

Here it is important to note that you are sending the right signals, because body language is silent communication that complements verbal.

Don't cross your arms and legs, hide your hands in your pockets, or play around nervously with anything, and watch your facial expressions, which should remain loose and natural.

Show your knowledge

Prepare for the company by finding out about it in advance, as this will allow you to answer specific questions aimed at ensuring your interest in the job and the company. No company likes to hire people who would take any job in any company, or are only interested in little effort for a lot of profit.

So never forget why you were invited to the interview: to convince as a personality, because your qualifications have already been assessed as appropriate in advance, otherwise you would not have been invited to the interview in the first place.

Nevertheless, the person interviewing you must be convinced that your knowledge is appropriate for the job and that your interest in it is honest.
