How to learn to communicate properly

Good speaker

The ability to communicate well is beneficial in every area of life. In both professional and private environments, good communication is the key to success. A good speaker is able to interest small and large groups and get their message across.

Simplicity

What all good speakers have in common is the ability to use language in such a way that everyone understands it. Complex and complicated phrases confuse many listeners. The basic idea is to formulate what is being said in such a way that the audience can follow. Very few people will ask questions if they don't understand foreign words so as not to appear uneducated and lose an important part of the message. The complexity of the language should be adapted to the audience; foreign words can be used with people of the same level of education if you are sure that the listeners know them.

Listen

Speaking is only half of being a good speaker. Good speakers not only enjoy listening to themselves speak, but can also listen to other people with equal interest. When listening, you should maintain direct eye contact with the other person and block out external influences that could be distracting. If you are preoccupied with other things or seem distracted while listening, you will interrupt the flow of communication. Instead, you should nod occasionally or make brief interjections to show the other person that you are following them and are interested.

Body language

Your own posture is an effective means of speaking well. You should never cross your arms and legs or turn your upper body away. This excludes the listener and comes across as arrogant. When speaking, you should look directly at the listener and keep your shoulders straight. You can use hand gestures and facial expressions to emphasise what you are saying, but do not overdo it, otherwise it will come across as artificial and theatrical.

To make the spoken word more interesting and appealing, you can incorporate stories. The trick is to use language as a means of visualisation and make people feel like they are there. In the context of a discussion, it is important to assert yourself so that you get to speak without coming across as aggressive. Aggressiveness is the end of good communication.
