Learning the right way to study

Study learning

Studying is a step towards the goal of acquiring excellent knowledge in your chosen major. In seminars and lectures, your notes and thus your preparation for the next lesson are the basis. The better your active participation and preparation in your studies, the better your results will be and the easier it will be to learn.

What is the best way to prepare?

The day before the next lecture or seminar, you should read through and internalise all relevant material available to you as a refresher. If the content of the topic is present in your mind, you are ready to absorb it. While reading, think about possible questions for the lecturer or professor. By asking questions, you are actively participating in the class instead of just passively absorbing the knowledge. It's important to stay current with what you know, because if you fall behind, you won't be able to follow as easily and it will be harder to catch up.

Notes to support what has been learned

In any seminar or lecture, you should take effective notes. If you have prepared well for the topic, you will be able to take precise and concise notes and still listen intensively. The most important key words from what is said are enough to remember for later learning, but what the professor writes on the blackboard should all be in your notebook.
All notes should remain thematically organised so that you can later understand the points covered. It is important that you take notes and continue to listen, because you will not fully understand the concept just by memorising your notes. As soon as you don't understand a context, you should ask questions.

You should revise your notes daily. For papers and projects, review all notes on the topic. If you spend half an hour each evening revising your notes on the topic the next day, they will be fresh and fresh in your mind and will be more easily absorbed into your long-term memory. It will also bring up individual points of any unanswered questions.

Studying regularly is the be-all and end-all of studying. Going through everything you've been putting off for weeks before an exam won't get you anywhere. Knowledge needs time to settle in the brain. If you wait too long, you won't have time to ask the lecturer any open questions.

Study together

Organise a study group with your fellow students. By learning together, many questions can be clarified, leading to better understanding. Group discussions of a topic also help the material stick in your mind better than just cramming.
If your own notes are incomplete, your fellow students can certainly help you fill in the gaps, just as you can help them. Every student learns from a slightly different perspective and therefore benefits from going through the learning experience of other students together.
