Creating the right learning atmosphere to do homework or study for an exam is of the utmost importance. Once you have worked out what time of day is best for you to study, the next question to answer is where is the best place to study undisturbed.
The ideal place must have a desk or table that is large enough to spread out books, exercise books, sheets and notes and still leave enough space to work. All relevant sources of information should be clearly visible to avoid searching around and chaos.
Make sure you have sufficient lighting. Ideally, you should study near a window and possibly even with a reading lamp.
One of the most important criteria when deciding on the ideal place to study is to be as far away as possible from any distractions. There should be no TV on, no siblings playing in the background, no phones, emails or instant messaging accessible.
Whether you listen to music while you study depends on your personal preference. Largely ignore all calls, switch off your mobile phone and resist the urge to grab a snack every fifteen minutes. Keep some snacks on the table in case you get hungry.
Depending on your home, you can find this place in the kitchen or on the dining room table, or in your bedroom. Maybe you can make a space in the basement or even set up a small office. Some people still find too much distraction at home and go to the public library to study.
Whatever you decide to do, it's best if you always study in the same place. That way, your mind gets used to focussing in that place and you know exactly where the pens, calculator or paper is. If you have a place that is only dedicated to studying, you can concentrate better on completing your task.
