Everyone knows the image of the famous cucumber slices on the eyes as a beauty treatment. The cool, moisturising cucumbers are particularly good for tired and swollen eyes. But how do you actually take an afternoon nap with two cucumber slices on your face so that they don't fall off?
Cut two thin slices from a fresh cucumber that are large enough to cover the eye area. It is particularly beneficial for the eyes if the cucumber comes out of the fridge cold. Many people soak the cucumber slices in cold milk for a while to reduce the acidity of the cucumber so that it doesn't sting the eyes. For your beauty sleep, find a quiet, relaxing corner where you can lie comfortably and listen to soft music. Don't forget to switch off your mobile phone!
A face mask is also applied for a complete beauty treatment. The cucumber slices are placed on the eyes and you relax to the music. The cucumber reduces puffiness, moisturises the eye area and tightens the skin. The high water content in the cucumber increases the water content of the skin cells.
With the cucumbers on your eyes, lie on your back and listen to the music. To prevent the slices from falling down and to reduce disturbing daylight, you can put a sleep mask over your eyes, preferably a synthetic mask that does not draw water out of the cucumbers. The cucumber slices remain on your eyes for 15 minutes.
It is important that the cucumber is cleaned well before slicing so that there are no bacteria on it that could infect the eyes. If the cucumber has already been cut, cut off the first slice so that the slices are nice and fresh and full of water.
