Hair loss that is not caused by a lack of nutrients has different causes in men and women. The treatment of hair loss must therefore be different. If the hair loss is not yet too advanced, there are medications that can help.

 

Hair loss in men

In men, hair loss is caused by hypersensitivity of the hair follicles to a specific, biologically active form of testosterone, namely dihydrotestosterone.
There are two active ingredients that can help men if the hair loss is not yet too widespread.

The active ingredient minoxidil stimulates the growth of downy hair in men under the age of 50. Thicker downy hair makes the entire head of hair look fuller.

The active ingredient finasteride is for men up to the age of 41 and stabilises hair loss. The reduction in the size of the hair follicles, which results in hair loss, is inhibited by the active ingredient.

Hair loss in women

Women suffer from hair loss particularly after the menopause, when oestrogen levels fall. The lower oestrogen level leads to hypersensitivity to androgen precursors.
The active ingredient minoxidil helps to slow down hair loss.

Hair tinctures with the active ingredient 17-alpha-oestradiol or similar hormone-based active ingredients help to stabilise oestrogen levels and inhibit hair loss. Certain birth control pills also contain such active ingredients.
