Depending on where you live or what kind of cat you have, it is not always advisable to let your cat run around outside on its own. To make sure it still gets its exercise, you can practise walking it on a lead like a dog.
Get a cat harness that covers the cat's neck and belly and has a lead attached to the cat's back. Unlike a dog, a cat can get out of a collar very quickly. To help the cat lose its fear at first, leave the cat harness open in the home for a few days, where the cat likes to be. Then start to put it on for a short time. However, take it off as soon as she resists it. Don't forget to reassure and praise her. It is also a good idea to give your cat a small reward every time you put the harness on.
As soon as the cat has got used to the harness, you can put it on for longer periods of time in the home without the lead.
Only when the cat moves and behaves completely normally with the cat harness is it time to attach the lead to it. Let the cat walk around the flat on the lead. However, the lead should be loose and the cat should decide where it wants to go on its own. After a few days, you can start to tighten the lead a little and gently move the cat in certain directions or stop it.
When taking your cat outside for the first time, give it time to look around and orientate itself. It is best to start in a quiet environment.
