Piephacke is the term used to describe swelling of the heel bump on the horse's hock. Piephack is usually caused by constant banging against walls or similar impacts. A piephack not only looks unsightly, but can also lead to minor lameness.

 

 

Piephacke cure and prevention

 

If the blepharospasm is already present, massage an anti-inflammatory ointment onto the area every day for a fortnight. If the swelling has not subsided after two weeks, apply 50%ge ichthyol ointment to the area twice a day for another two weeks.

 

In order to avoid the occurrence of piephacke, one must prevent the horse from injuring itself when lashing out in the stall. This can be done by placing a padded crossbar at hip level. This can be, for example, a 10 cm thick slat with a carpet wrapped around it. In addition, you can hang old car tyres along the walls of the box,
