When cats have dandruff, you can see white flakes of skin on their fur, especially when stroking them. Usually the dandruff appears on the cat's back towards the tail. What causes dandruff in the cat and how can it be prevented?

Dandruff often occurs in cats. Dandruff is caused by dry skin or lack of grooming. Cats usually groom their fur themselves and are very thorough about it. However, if the cat is rather negligent in its own grooming, you have to help it a little. Brush the coat thoroughly with a cat brush every day and remove the loose fur hairs. Frequent stroking with the hand also contributes to coat care. Dust particles on the coat stick to the human hand and thus help to clean the coat. The oils found in human skin also provide the cat's coat and skin with additional lipids.

The cause of dry skin may lie in the diet. It is best to try a higher quality cat food or vitamin and mineral supplements. Essential fatty acids are particularly important.
