Why working with horses is so good for people

The gentle, friendly eyes of a horse have always had a strong attraction for people. Handling a horse invites you to stroke and caress it, despite its imposing size.

Intensive physical contact with another living being is not a matter of course for everyone and is good for body and soul alike. Horses are grateful recipients of caresses and are happy to return their friendship to humans.

Horses are a symbol of nature, freedom and unspoilt life.

The horse perceives every emotional nuance of the human and reacts accordingly. For example, a horse will behave dismissively towards someone who is unsure, tense or aggressive. If a person wants the horse to follow him, he must change his behaviour, because the horse demands clear communication. A person who finds it difficult to assert themselves in life learns to recognise their own needs and assert themselves better when dealing with a horse, because the horse forces clear and decisive actions so that it understands what it should do.

Riding a horse is truly relaxing for body and soul. The harmonious, rocking movements are like a gentle massage; the exhilaration on horseback gives you an unrivalled feeling of freedom and self-confidence. Being carried by a horse reminds the subconscious of childhood.

There are now institutions where horse handling is used as a therapy for social problems and depression.
