No matter how much you like cats, there are places where you simply don't want to let the climbing experts in. Apart from using repellents that cats find repulsive, it is almost impossible to keep cats away. With 100% natural products you can keep cats away without harming their health.
Dried mustard, cayenne pepper, coffee powder and rosemary usually work well outdoors. Sprinkle some powder on the affected areas and renew after every rain. Not every cat reacts to odours in the same way, so if one remedy doesn't work, you can try another.
In the home, you can sprinkle some cotton wool balls with essential oils and stick them in certain corners. Essential oils can also be rubbed onto surfaces. Cinnamon, citronella, lemongrass, orange and rosemary usually work well.
Another option is to decoct fresh herbs, e.g. lavender or rosemary, and pour the decoction into a spray bottle. Do not use a spray bottle in which chemicals have previously been stored. Use the spray bottle to spray shelves, floors or furniture where the cat should not go. It can also be used to spray plants, as the liquid is not harmful to plants. These odours are barely perceptible to humans, but cats find them strong.
Herb plants with odours that cats don't like can be planted in the garden. Lavender, garden rue, rosemary, chives and garlic are suitable for this. In return, you can plant some catnip in a place where the cats are allowed to be.
Care should be taken not to use repellents that may poison the cat. You should avoid mothballs or borax, which may repel the cat but can make it ill.
