Prancing horse

Cribbing in horses is a bad habit, and since horses copy each other's cribbing, it can be described as contagious.

At the beginning of this disease, the horse places the upper incisors on a protruding edge and thus draws air into the throat by tensing the neck muscles.

Measures against coppicing

If possible, the horse should be moved out of sight of other horses so that they do not also start to dock.

A popping strap prevents popping, but it must be strapped on correctly.

Take away the horse's ability to sit up, i.e. all protruding edges must be bevelled or coated with an over-scented solution. (e.g. Finalgon)

Place the feed trough on the floor or hang it up on ropes so that the horse cannot use it as a ledge to paddle.

Prevention against couping

Place thick pieces of wood in the stall for the horse to gnaw on and thus satisfy its natural gnawing appetite and keep it occupied, as bad habits are usually caused by boredom.

Feed less sweet food because horses often spread sweet food on the walls and later lick it incessantly.

the horse needs sufficient daily exercise through riding, leading, lunging or exercise.
